The divergence between these two figures is not found in the gap between a YPS-3 city-level threat and a YPS-4 nation-level deterrent, but in their opposing responses to the trauma of lost time. One character attempts to freeze the world to preserve a memory, while the other attempts to force the world to acknowledge her existence. Beatrice’s existence is defined by a refusal to participate; her low Ego and Luck scores reflect a life spent in a self-imposed purgatory, waiting for a specific individual who may never return. Her magic is not a tool of agency but a tether, a dependency that requires a contractor to function. Conversely, Emilia moves through the Royal Selection not as a passive observer, but as a participant reclaiming a stolen identity. Even as she carries the heavy Darkness of her resemblance to the Witch of Envy, her higher Ego and Luck scores indicate a trajectory of reclamation rather than stagnation. While Beatrice seeks safety in the static archives of a library, Emilia accepts the volatility of political leadership to combat the prejudice that seeks to erase her. The world of Re:Zero produces two distinct methods of surviving a broken history: the preservation of the self through isolation, and the assertion of the self through confrontation.
Archetype breakdowns and dispute court land in later phases.
